As an OUSD parent, I’m running for Oakland School Board, District 4 to strengthen student outcomes, bring greater discipline and transparency to district governance, and make sure families, educators, and community partners have a meaningful role in shaping the future of our schools. There’s a lot of work ahead, but I believe Oakland has the people, talent, and commitment to do it well, together.
Voters should elect Arielle Fleisher in District 2, Kathryn Camp in District 4 and Alexandra Williams in District 6
Kathryn Camp, Mike Hutchinson and Sylvia Williams answered questions from The Oaklandside and their constituents at a forum at Oakland High School.
Districts 2, 4 and 6 each have tightly contested races this year. At our recent school board election forum, all eight candidates got into revealing debates.
A budget is more than numbers. It’s a statement about our priorities. OUSD needs to move beyond reacting to the next financial emergency by making tough decisions, asking better questions, tracking what’s working, and keeping student success at the center of every decision. Oakland has the talent and resources to do better. What we need is disciplined, accountable leadership that can turn those resources into stronger schools and better outcomes for students.
I’m grateful to have parents and community members standing with me in this campaign. We may come from different backgrounds and perspectives, but we share a commitment to our students and a belief that we can build stronger Oakland public schools by working together. That’s the kind of leadership I’ll bring to the School Board: listening, bringing people together, and always keeping our students at the center.
